Yesterday, as I was making a fruit smoothie for my dad, I was thinking about a message I heard while at my church camp. The message was about the plan that God has for your life. God can put all the good stuff out for you to apply to your life, such as: a good church; godly friends; soul winning opportunities; times that you can leave a good impression on people in your neighborhood; church camps; youth activities and revivals, but it’s up to you to do it. Although, the devil has some things in store for you as well such as: drugs, alcohol, bad friends, Friday night parties, bad movies, and bad music. It’s not all up to your parents to make sure that your life is what God wants it to be, often times we refuse the good things that parents try to place in our path. If I asked my little 5 year old brother what I should put into the smoothie, he would most likely reply “Ketchup AND mustard!”
An example of a good thing to put into the smoothie would be strawberries, and a bad example would be, ketchup and mustard. And there is another example, which is a deceptive example. For instance: A 3 year old would think that a lemon looked good to eat. It has a bright yellow outside, it’s a fun looking shape, and its friend, the orange, tastes good. So they decide to try it, it doesn’t take long for them to figure out that they do not like a lemon. The devil can appear as something beautiful, but as soon as you go for the bait, you get the hook.
If you are familiar with the story of “The Phantom of the Opera”, you know that Christine thought that he was the ‘Angel of Music’, when he was really evil. He deceived her into thinking that he was her friend, but when she came to him, he wanted to keep her down in the catacombs forever. And when she refused to go with him he was going to make her life miserable. The devil works the same way. He will show you that those on drugs have fun when they get high, but he does not show you the before and after story. He shows you that if you drink, you will be cool, hip, and glamorous. However, he does not show you that you end up an addict and hospitalized with cirrhosis of the liver.
All of that and it comes down to this. When God sets something up for you in your life, please just take it as is, don’t try to add anything to it. God knows what is best for you and He has a divine purpose set up if you would just take up your cross daily, and follow Him.
II Corinthians 11:13-14
For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.
Dear Lord,
I pray that you would reveal the plan that you have for my life. I want to do your will. Help me to follow your recipe.
In Jesus name,
Amen
