In the beginning God made everything.
He made man and he made plants. Genesis 2:9 "For out of the ground made the Lord God to grow every tree pleasant to the sight and good for meat: the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and of evil." He made The Tree of Life and He made The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. He didn't make The Tree of the Making of Evil. Sin was already in the world before Eve ate of that fruit. Satan was there. They were naked. They just didn't know it. As soon as they ate of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil they knew about the good and evil. They knew good, but they also knew evil. They tried to fix it themselves. They made themselves aprons of fig leaves, but it didn't cover their sins. Therefore, God had to make the first sacrifice. He made them aprons of sheep's skin for them to temporarily cover their dis-GRACE-fulness.
The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil is a picture of the Law.Romans 3:20 "Therefore by the works of the Law shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the Law cometh the knowledge of sin." If there were no law against it, it wouldn't be sin.
He made The Law and he made Grace. The Tree of Life is a picture of Christ (Grace)
Rev. 22:14 "Blessed are they, that do his Commandments, that their right may be in the tree of Life, and may enter in through the gates into the City."
John 14:6 "Jesus said unto him, I am that Way, and that Truth, and that Life. No man cometh unto the Father, but by me."
Adam and Eve had a choice. They chose the Law and they were punished by it, they were put out of the Garden.
Galatians 3:13 "Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:"
Adam is also the picture of Christ. Eve is a picture of the Church. Ephesians 5:31-32 "For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife, and they twain shall be one flesh. This is a great secret, but I speak concerning Christ, and concerning the Church."
When God told Satan that he couldn't kill Job, he was telling him that he couldn't kill his wife either. Because they were one flesh. Satan can't kill us because we are cleaved with Christ. We are one flesh. We abide in the shadow of the Almighty.
Psalm 91:1 "Who so dwelleth in the secret of the most High, shall abide in the shadow of the Almighty."
Satan can't hurt Christ directly, so he hurts us; which in turn hurts Christ, because we are one flesh. Satan goes after the weaker vessel; he goes after us, the Church, the Bride of Christ, Eve. Eve's decision affected Adam just as our decisions affect Christ, because we are one flesh. Every day Satan tempts us with evil, but we need to remember that we abide IN the shadow of the All-mighty.Matthew 4:7 "Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God."
Hold up your hand horizontal to this screen. Look at the shadow under neath it. That is where we are. We are in the shadow of the Almighty. The war is just on the other side of the shadow-line, but we don't' need to fear. When we choose Christ, we are in Him and Christ is IN us. The Hope of Glory. He has already won the battle.1 Cor. 10:16 "The cup of blessing which we bless, it is not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?"
Of course we are not to literally EAT Jesus' body and blood, it is a symbol of partaking in his death, burial and resurrection. When we ask Christ into our hearts, we have to let go and let God. When Christ is truly living through us in our everyday lives and through everything we do we are living in Christ. Jesus did all that He did here on earth so that when we accept His gift, all he did comes through us. His death and burial (our old flesh dies) and resurrection (our new man lives in us now).
I have heard this illustration many times. 'Temptation is just an open window to do wrong. All you have to do is just close the window.' I would rather not even go in the house! If Adam and Eve would have just eaten of the Tree of Life, their troubles would not had started. Just eat of Christ, don't worry about the good and evil of life.John 6:54 "Whosoever eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day."
Paul says in Romans 10:3 "For they, being ignorant of the righteousness of God, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves to the righteousness of God." Adam and Eve were ignorant of the righteousness of God and they tried to establish their own righteousness (the fig leaves), but it didn't cover their sin. The Bible says in Ephesians 2:8-9 "For by grace are ye saved through faith, and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God. Not of works, lest any man should boast himself."

We can't cover our own unrighteousness.
Why, because our righteousness is as filthy rags.
